Family Love Letters

As a financial advising firm, a lot of what we do revolves around money; usually under the umbrella of planning. But when someone close to you passes, rarely does everything unfold as we imagine. The truth is - it’s not money.

Lynn was a guest on Beyond the Paycheck with Paula Christine discussing The Family Love Letter on December 13, 2022.

This project is something very close to Lynn, our managing partner’s heart. When she was just six, Lynn lost her mother to cancer and saw her father work hard to cover mounting medical bills. Early on she knew she wanted to help people with their money and hopefully avoid the financial and emotional struggles she saw her father go through.

Lynn knows first-hand the importance of:

  • having disability insurance if you can’t work

  • having life insurance to replace the income lost when the bread winner is gone

  • having the means to pay for child care if a single parent needs to go back to work

  • having the means to stay home if the children need a parent at home for awhile

  • having your documents in order to avoid probate

  • having your wishes known in order to avoid conflict among loved ones

  • passing on family treasures to the right loved one

  • passing down those memories and stories to the next generations

The Family Love Letters is a way for you to more comprehensively address the traumatic transition living family members experience after the death of a loved one, and everything that comes with it. Especially the things that aren’t necessarily tangible or might not be included in a formal estate plan and trust.

The Family Love Letter is an additional piece that removes the confusion, reduces stress, and minimizes conflicts for those we leave behind. Think of it as an instruction manual, filling in the blanks of your formal estate plan (what happens to the cherished family fruit bowl or where important documents are stored), think of it as your voice - passing on values, inspiration, and stories as a legacy.

Once in place, the Family Love Letter gives you and your family the gift of time when you need it the most.
